Turkey History
Turkey is a land where thousands of years, hundreds of cultures have created a race of people whose hospitality is world famous.
Turkey remained a land of mixed cultures and confusions right up until the beginning of the 20th century, when it was known as the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans were defeated by a brilliant young soldier in the First World War, known to all as Ataturk.
Ataturk carried out series of far reaching reforms, designed to westernise Turkey and ease it into the modern world. With these reforms the Sultan was exiled and they abolished the ministry of religious affairs. Ataturk did not oppose religion but only its interference in the government.
