Bodrum

Bodrum is situated between the Anatolian and Greek civilisations. The archaeological finds of various civilizations have indicated that the regions history extends as far back as the 5th milennia. Bodrum's accient name is Halicarnassus, and during the rule of King Mausolus one of the Seven Wonders of the World was created as he started building his own tomb, today only the foundations are visable.

 

Bodrum Castle is at the heart of of the regions sightseeing and it is currently the home of the Museum of Underwater Archaeology, as well as a number of hotels and restaurants, and with its sandy beaches all around the penninsular any of the surrouding towns make an ideal base to start from.

 

Other resorts in the area such as Turgutreis, Gumusluk, Yalikavak, Torba and Gumbet all have thier own local history aswel as a selection of high quality hotels, restaurants and bars.
